The Reliquary of Courage is typically the first of the Mountain Reliquary puzzles you will encounter in Ghost of Yōtei, located in the central area of the Yotei Grasslands. This puzzle acts as a tutorial for the others, focusing on reading the environment and a riddle to determine the correct direction for nearby statues.

Here is the breakdown of the riddle and the solution:

The Reliquary of Courage Riddle

The inscription on the central stone reads:

  • A boy was lost and alone
  • But wolves came from every corner to guide him
  • Their eyes gazing at the true Mount Yōtei

Step-by-Step Solution

The key to solving the Reliquary of Courage is the final line of the riddle, which explicitly states the direction the statues must face:

  1. Locate the Statues: Surrounding the central stone reliquary, you will find four small fox/wolf statues. They are arranged in a rough North, East, South, and West formation.
  2. Identify Mount Yōtei: Look out towards the horizon. Mount Yōtei is the large, distinctive, snow-capped mountain—it is generally visible from the reliquary’s location, typically to the West.
  3. Rotate the Statues: Approach each of the four small statues individually. You will be prompted to rotate the statue (usually by pressing R2 on a PlayStation controller).
    • Goal: Turn each of the four fox/wolf statues so that the face/gaze of the statue is pointing directly at Mount Yōtei.
    • Note: Unlike some later Reliquary puzzles, turning one statue in the Reliquary of Courage does not affect the rotation of the others. Simply turn all four to face the mountain.
  4. Claim Your Reward: Once all four statues are correctly facing Mount Yōtei, the Reliquary will open, and you will be rewarded with the Charm of Mount Yōtei, which provides a minor reduction to all incoming damage.

This simple directional puzzle is a great way to introduce the concept of the Reliquaries and net you a useful defensive charm early in your journey through Ezo.
